MTC Lite 2022 Wembdon

MTC Lite is an evening course similar to the South-West Gospel Partnership Ministry Training Course on Thursdays, but Lite! Evening sessions of in-depth and relevant Bible teaching, delivered across the region in partnership with local churches.
MTC 2022 will be hosted by St George's Wembdon, and will take place over two Wednesday evenings in November:
Wednesday 9th November 2022 - Ian Lewis
Session 1: 3D Gospel
As we read the New Testament we see the unchanging Gospel presented in different ways in different cultural settings. In this session we’ll explore the way in which different cultures reflect a balance of guilt-innocence, shame-honour and power-fear and how the Bible speaks powerfully into each of these emphases. We’ll recognise more fully how different people and cultures understand the impact of sin in their lives and the importance of the Gospel to address that. And in doing so, we should become more alert to the truths of Scripture as we read it and to the way different people may most effectively hear the Gospel.
Session 2: Philemon
This delightful, short letter in the New Testament is particularly personal and shows a side of the Apostle Paul that we might not see in other letters. It raises many questions about the different relationships in our lives. Extremely practical, Paul’s letter helps us to explore some of the more challenging aspects of friendship and equips us to love each other more fully even when we have difficult things to say to one another.
Wednesday 16th November 2022 - Michael Farrier
Session 1: Ecclesiastes
Christians are citizens of the kingdom of heaven (Phil 3.20) but sent by Jesus to live in the kingdom of the world (John 17.15). How, then, do we make sense of life in this world, when we belong to the kingdom of God? Ecclesiastes brings together our Christian identity and our life in this world in a way that helps us to make sense of the world, our lives, and where God is in it all. Is it all 'meaningless'? Or is it all pointing us to the undeniable truth of the God of the Bible? Unpack the meaning of life with this fantastic OT book.
Session 2: Church Planting
With so many churches closing their doors, and many others attracting unsustainably small congregations, planting even more churches might seem like a waste of time and resources, right? Wrong! OK, but church planting is just for mega-churches, nothing to do with small, urban or rural churches, right? Wrong!
Develop a whole new understanding - even a plan - for purposeful planting, as we consider the principles of planting a church and how they apply to the context that God has placed us in .
