Grace Church Cheltenham - Children and Youth Worker

Role Description: Children and Youth Worker

Since it was founded in 2012, Grace Church has grown to include many children, and teenagers. We run a large weekly programme (Grace Kids) during the Sunday @ 4 service and are looking to expand our midweek offering in the coming year.

We are looking for someone to devote themselves wholeheartedly to serving the children, youth and parents, with the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a key role at an exciting time for the church.

The core role is approximately 20 hours per week, which includes Sundays and various weeknight commitments. Three year fixed-term contract starting on 1/9/25.

Salary: £16,000 p/a plus pension contributions.

Key responsibilities

  • In conjunction with group coordinators, plan and resource the content for each Grace Kids session.

  • Deliver a session each week, rotating through each GK group regularly.

  • Lead the midweek group for younger teens (approx. 11-14 years, meeting weekly during term time): plan and deliver activities and teaching sessions

    alongside volunteers.

  • Support the midweek group for older teens (approx. 14-18years, meeting

weekly during term time) alongside the youth coordinator and other volunteers

  • Support families with practical needs in conjunction with the church elders.

    Possible additional tasks

There is the possibility of including general church administration in the role with extra time and payment allocated.

Person specification

The role requires someone who is well-organised and able to manage their own time effectively. The role is home-based. The role is suited to someone who enjoys working with young people and is effective at engaging them in Bible teaching.

Most importantly, the role requires someone who is committed to following Jesus, and who fully agrees with the church’s basis of belief. The children’s worker will be expected to be part of a Grace Group, attend monthly prayer meetings and catch up with the sermons via online audio each week as part of maintaining their own spiritual health. The church leadership are committed to supporting both spiritual growth and ongoing professional development. The church will cover the cost of attending a suitable training event or ministry conference each year.
